"Despite all the attention, the idea of subliminal advertising was never anything more than a hoax."


James Vicary an unemployed market researcher conducted an experiment in a New Jersey movie theater. The experiment flashed a message into the movie screen during the showing of film, a message saying “Drink Coca-Cola” “Eat popcorn” the message appeared so fast that the human eye couldn’t perceived it, but according to the experiment it increase the sale of coke and popcorn. These studies come out to be a fraud.
“Although carefully controlled scientific studies have shown that subliminal perception exists—the mind does indeed record more information than it can deal with at any one time—subliminal persuasion has never been proved to work. In fact, research run with scientifically reliable controls has confirmed that it is impossible to use subliminal techniques to produce predictable responses such as the purchase of a specific product."Pg. 467 (Mass Media in the Changing world)

The concept of subliminal advertising has remained a part of our culture, sometimes is the subliminal ads can cause scare people. However a lot of times this matter, is subject of humor with people. The incident during the 2000 presidential election, is example, the campaign of candidate George W. Bush ran an ad aimed at his opponent, Al Gore, in which the word “RATS”
